Double Drabble: A Spy is Born

A few weeks after the coronation, greetings and gifts began to arrive at Cair Paravel from countries that hadn't been heard from in Narnia in a century.

A locked wooden chest was the gift from Corvalis, a country no one had ever heard of. "We probably need ambassadors," Susan said thoughtfully, but no one was listening, as they were all too busy trying to open the chest.

No key was included, but thanks to a clever Hedgehog, the chest was finally opened. At first glance, it appeared empty, but then Lucy spied a small black cap, and pulled it out. "I wonder what this is for?"

Edmund took the cap from her and put it on his head, and promptly disappeared. Susan shrieked in surprise, and they all stared at the place Edmund had just been, when his voice was heard. "What are you looking at?"

"You've gone invisible, Ed," said Peter, pointing out the obvious.

Edmund's disembodied voice filled the room. "Interesting….so I have." He reappeared suddenly, cap in hand.

"What are we supposed to do with that?" Susan said.

Edmund put the cap back on his head and disappeared again. "I can think of a few things."

A.N.: Just a silly take on the Edmund-as-spymaster and Edmund-gets-a-gift-of-his-own tropes. :D

LITERAL INVISIBILITY. I love it. And Edmund is hilariously delighted with the possibilities of the gift...of COURSE there are other countries out there, some with magic of their own (Corvalis is a great name, btw). Oh, how I love devious Edmund. I didn't even think of the spymaster trope until you mentioned it; I was so taken with the idea of Edmund wreaking havoc on the peace of Cair Paravel with his new toy. FUN! Terrific.

And then Susan borrows it and never gives it back and becomes awesome spy mistress? A great fill of the prompt and so unexpected -- literally invisibility! Also a great send up of the traditional tropes!

I bet the other Pevensies will play with the cap for a bit as well, and I wouldn't be surprised if a few pranks were played. :-)

But of course, there are much more practical uses for an invisibility cap.

Cute! (And yes, they definitely need ambassadors.)

:D Well, a most unexpected gift from Corvalis! These sound a very tricky people indeed -- who knows what else was in the chest, unseen? Thanks for this!

Fantastic! Edmund gets a gift -- and Edmund is very much a mischievious little boy still, which is brilliant! I love it! :D
