Fill for the Week Seven Challenge: Autumn

Double drabble, and fairly silly. 


“Mangroves!  Bloody thumping mangroves!” Glumshbrum glanced across to Shdumdrob, who was gloomily picking his teeth  - mangrove always got stuck in your teeth.

“They got the muddy taste, though, right?” Mulliburrim put in.  “And they’re stringy!  I mean, ’swhat the Autumn Feast’s about, right?”

“Who asked you, Mull-head? Shdumdrob and me’re having a private conversation.”

“Leave me out of it,” Shdumdrob growled.  He reached a giant fist across the table, prodding one finger into the dish opposite.  “What’ve we got for pies?”

 “That prickly stuff – whossname – from that province place down south.”

“Ahrzonah,” put in Mulliburrim, hopefully.  “ ’Snot so bad.  I mean, looks a bit like Man, dunnit?  And it’s sort of flabby, like Man.”

They stared morosely into the dish.  True enough, the shapes in it had a middle trunk, like Man, and they had pale translucent limbs flopped at their sides.  But…

“Man-pies my foot!  It’s thumping hogsfodder!  And if they haven’t skinned’em properly we’ll all be choking on them spine things.”

“Arggh!  Rot it sodden!”

With one sweep of his massive forearm, Shdumdrob smashed the pie to smithereens.

Autumn Feast just wasn’t the same since the Scrubb Irregulars had swept through and declared Vegetarian Rule at Harfang.

Vegetarian Giants! ROTFL. Excellent. The Scrubb Irregulars fanning across the land to assure a diet of bland and boiled English vegetables!!!

Maybe they just need a nice curry? Or a cheese sauce?

Cheese sauce indeed! :D The number of times I've been (speaking asa vegetarian) fobbed off with Appalling Cheesy Vegetable Bake! Though I'm not actually sure how I'd make mangroves palatable....

And here's the illustrated version! -- sorry I was slow to get the pictures added. I was thinking that the mangroves could look to a slightly closed eye somewhat like a Marshwiggle -- and the man-like objects from the southern province of Ahrzonah... well, with very careful peeling, and a good deal of boiling...

FLOVE! Everything was hilarious...from the perfect giant names to how GIANTISH they spoke, to the terrific substitutes for Man and Marsh-wiggle...nom nom nom. I lol'ed at the concluding line. I am SO GLAD you went for it - this was brilliant!

I rather like the idea of Scrubb in militant vegetarian mode! I'm not exactly sure how he drummed up the force of Irregulars, but they sound very impressive!

I'm loving the idea of a Vegetarian Rule under Scrubb. Heh. And, as a person who has never heard of mangroves, I was originally thinking that they were discussing mangroves in the sense of groves of men. *Amusing*

And carefully peeled cacti. I snicker.

Mangroves grow in the tidal zone at the edge of the sea, and along tidal rivers -- there's lots of them in Australia, but they're worldwide, in the temperate/tropical zone. Since they grow in that land-and-water situation, and have 'legs', I thought they were a good fit for Marshwiggles -- they usually grow above head-height, but I guess the provendors would just have to select tender young ones. :)
